The Social Networking of Social Networks

Posted by: kappa_rash
On Wednesday it was announced that Chris DeWolfe would step down as the CEO of Myspace in a display of a lack of faith in Myspace's viability in the world of social networking. The biggest competition myspace has to deal with is Facebook, which has long overtaken Myspace as the world's most popular social network, so perhaps naming former facebook executive Owen Van Natta as the replacement CEO of Myspace is an attempt at imposing Facebook's influence onto the site. Many doubt that we will witness a new, more Facebook-like Myspace but the future of DeWolfe's ex-business partner, the infamous Tom Anderson of Myspace, is looking uncertain. If Tom also leaves then there is a chance that Myspace could be fully acquired by ex-facebook employees, meaning that the competition between social networks will end up as a social game amongst friends, ironically. Lifelike animation heralds new era for computer ga...

Posted by: demo

'Emily' will set a new precedent for photo-realistic characters in video games and films, says her creator, Image Metrics

Extraordinarily lifelike characters are to begin appearing in films and computer games thanks to a new type of animation technology.

Emily - the woman in the above animation - was produced using a new modelling technology that enables the most minute details of a facial expression to be captured and recreated.

She is considered to be one of the first animations to have overleapt a long-standing barrier known as 'uncanny valley' - which refers to the perception that animation looks less realistic as it approaches human likeness.
